Best of Zanzibar welcomes international volunteers to Zanzibar, who share the vision of creating sustainable living and communities. Our basic program for volunteers is to integrate with the communities through the Mbuyu Tende and Kijini Primary/Secondary schools to:
train teachers and students English and Maths;
establish school garden and agricultural education;
develop nutritional program;
rain water harvesting
sanitation & hygiene education;
women empowerment & cultural entrepreneur programs
research opportunities
By integrating into the communities, volunteers will learn where other challenge areas lie. Therefore a motivation to learn Kiswahili to communicate efficiently and the drive to self start and create programs for the communities are encouraged. This is a highly creative volunteer program, with lots of flexibility for volunteers to expand and grow sustainable communities in a number of ways. The programs will succeed based on the ideas and initiatives from the volunteers, and the support from Best of Zanzibar.
A volunteer commitment of six (6) months is required in order to integrate fully and leave a mark of sustainability.
Volunteers are provided with accommodation at Matemwe staff housing, and transport to communities of Mbuyu Tende and Kijini 5 days a week. An honourary monthly stipend will be granted. Volunteer permit costs for Zanzibar will be covered by Best of Zanzibar.
